How cool is this? Unfortunately, it’s not very practical for a real group of today’s modern superheroes. This headquarters has an advantage of being heavily technologically savvy and safe from attack and scrutiny to assure privacy.

Ah, the classic subterranean superhero headquarters. This has been used by Batman, the Avengers and many others. There are drawbacks outside of the obvious rarity of this geological formation such as moisture that would be present and interfere with computer equipment. Still, it is easy (or even unnecessary) to heat or cool, can remain secret, and let’s face it; its really cool.

Tower/ Office Complex

Here is a contemporary modern approach to finding a headquarters. Teams like the Fantastic Four and Titans have made use of it. It has the advantage of being easily available, and sets a professional tone for groups operating in public. While the team could remain anonymous, it has the disadvantage of being open to scrutiny by people such as building code inspectors.

This is an inspiring location to it’s symbolism as a symbol of safe harbor. Location is difficult though as finding a lighthouse can be problematic and they are often far from the urban areas that need superheroes most.

This is obviously attractive to any superteam wishing to operate in secret. THE location itself precludes intense scrutiny and it allows for a lot of space for training and exercises but it also often necessitates a removal from the urban areas, a similar problem with the above lighthouse example.

Okay, admittedly this one is never going to happen but let’s look at why we see it working in comics. It provides privacy and a protective nature almost solely by the nature of its location and structure.
